A few mornings ago, I was reading my morning devotional and came across the topic of divine detours. Here is what my devotional read:
God’s will for your life contains detours that build your trust in Him and build maturity in you. Your detour may seem dumb and a waste of time, but in reality, it is part of God’s great adventure. Detours are very and pregnant with life lessons that cannot be learned on a well-beaten and familiar path. Your ability to endure this sidebar experience is a test of humility. Your willingness to walk with God on what seems a tangential assignment has fruitful outcomes. Do no despise this detour, for it is the path by which you learn things about yourself that have haunted you in the past. Take this time of testing to really understand your motives. “Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands” (Deuteronomy 8:2). Divine detours are meant to grow your dependence on Him.
– Seeking Daily the Heart of God
We often equate waiting with wasting. But, instead of viewing your current “waiting period” or “divine detour” as a slice of time that is being wasted, view it as an opportunity for God to work in your heart.
